Meet the team – Sam Swift
Meet the team – Sam Swift
10th March 2009

Meet Sam, our Work Based Learning Administrator at The Source.

Sam, tell us a bit about your role and what you do on a daily basis
On a daily basis I input new learners onto the PICS database management system, analyse and print off reports to ensure all data is up to date and accurate, internally audit the quality of learner files on the Train To Gain and Apprenticeship programmes in preparation for LSC audits and support the Work Based Learning Manager and Tutors with any administration duties.

How did you get into this work?
I originally started out working on the Customer Service Desk in Meadowhall. Whilst working there I was approached by a Work Based Learning Tutor and asked if I would like to undertake an Apprenticeship in Customer Service level 2. I really wanted to do this qualification and spoke to my supervisor who agreed. I successfully completed and achieved my Apprenticeship and thoroughly enjoyed undertaking it. I had learnt so much about the company itself and discovered skills I didn't know I had.

Following completing this Apprenticeship, I wanted to carry on learning and improving my skills. The Apprenticeship had given me self belief and the confidence to move further in my career. I was extremely happy working within Meadowhall but felt I needed to progress. I saw an internal vacancy advertised for a Junior Administrator within The Source; for this job no experience was needed and the training and future prospects offered were fantastic. I hesitated in applying for the job at first but I'm really glad I did.

I was immediately enrolled onto a Business Administration Apprenticeship Level 3 and successfully completed this within 2 years.  My manager also enrolled me onto a neuro linguistic programming course to improve my self confidence. The skills I have learnt within this job role are unbelievable and the challenges that face you every day are always different. Within 7 months of commencing my new job role, my Manager decided to promote me to Office Administrator (no longer junior).

What has been your biggest achievement?
My biggest achievement so far has been completing my Business Administration Advanced Apprenticeship. A personal achievement for me is also the trust and respect I have gained from the managers of The Source, the Work Based Learning Tutors and other external companies.

Why do you enjoy working at The Source?
I enjoy working at The Source because of all the people I work with, the job that I do and the opportunities to progress within my job role are fantastic. My Manager sees potential in me and has now enrolled me onto the A1 assessor's award.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
I see myself as still working within Work Based Learning, possibly as a Tutor or working with the finance side in auditing at The Source.

And the million dollar question for March... who would your dream celebrity date be?
My dream celebrity date would be with...............  Vernon Kay!! I think he would be a good laugh!!
