Republic, one of the High Street's most recognisable stores, has jumped at the chance to improve the standard of service it offers to shoppers visiting its Meadowhall store, by introducing nationally recognised retail qualifications for staff.
After identifying a need for exceptional customer service in the current climate, Republic enrolled 16 employees onto Retail and Visual Merchandising qualifications with The Source.
Visual Merchandising is a key aspect for Republic due to its vibrant, lively atmosphere, but with only one member of staff qualified in this area, the store was finding it a challenging task to keep on top of ever changing styles.
That's where John Dixon, currently the Manager of the Leeds branch, stepped in to help the store strengthen not only this aspect, but also aiming to develop the delivery of customer service to above and beyond the standard issued by the company.
With support from the Work Based Learning team at The Source, John was able to progress members of the Republic team at the Meadowhall store to gain additional qualifications and a greater understanding of their job roles in a more comprehensive way. Through the use of their NVQ training schemes, the staff have been able to learn new skills in a practical environment as well as developing a greater understanding of the retail industry.
John said: "It's an excellent way to enhance the skills of the team at no cost to us. The team also responds better to external help, it really boosts morale amongst staff. It also allows the store to strengthen the service it offers to customers in a collective way as they are all working towards the same objectives."
John has also noticed that with the help of The Source, the team are far more willing to embrace change and initiate new ideas, making them happier in their work and in addition, gaining extra qualifications and skills.
John is also working closely with The Source Schools Department to provide Republic merchandise for window dressing at the interactive visual merchandising facility within The Source. At the facility, school students have the opportunity to work with current fashions to create fabulous window designs to genuine store quality.
John adds: "It's a great opportunity to inspire young minds and give students practical retail experience that will be beneficial for their future. Republic is proud to be supporting The Source with various initiatives that will grow the retail managers of the future."
Mike Denby, Business Communication Manager at The Source, continued John's message adding: "By developing relationships with retailers such as Republic, we are offering a comprehensive service that not only elevates the brand that is ‘Republic', but that also supports young people in their quest for success in the vibrant retail industry."
