Offered annually, these seven scholarships give fully-funded access to the British Shops and Stores Association's (bssa) Oxford Retail Masters Forum, a four-day residential course which is widely regarded as one of the top retail management training programmes in the country. Running from 22nd - 25th March 2010 at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, it gives Retail Managers the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the most talented retail experts.
The Oxford Retail Masters Forum enables delegates to:
- Enhance their understanding of the key drivers of business success
- Gain further insight into the interpretation and evaluation of business performance
- Examine the challenges of today's highly competitive retail market and the opportunities of the future
- Develop strategies for improving the performance of their own business
The 2009 programme included speakers such as Phil Wrigley, Executive Chairman of New Look, Stephen Robertson, Director General of the British Retail Consortium and Alan Giles Chairman of Fat Face. The 2010 programme is currently being developed and BSSA are delighted to confirm that Theo Paphitis, Chairman of Ryman Stationery and star of BBC TV's Dragons' Den programme, will be the guest speaker on Entrepreneurism.
2009 winner Peter Moore, Debenhams, said: "I was a store manager when I applied for the scholarship and although I had spent nearly 20 years in front line retail and developed many people, but I had spent very little time on my own formal development. Since the course I have been promoted to a role where my old skill set is very valid, but also where my new skills around bigger picture and corporate thinking are used daily."
Scholarships are available to anyone who has worked in the industry for at least seven years but are particularly relevant for owners, senior / regional managers and store managers. Applications are particularly encouraged from SMEs and independent retail businesses.
