Chamber discovers the ‘Source’ of apprentices
Chamber discovers the ‘Source’ of apprentices
8th January 2007

You're hired! Sheffield Chamber of Commerce has linked up with The Source at Meadowhall on a new scheme designed to find its members appropriate and able apprentices.

The new partnership between the business support organisation and the award-winning training centre aims to secure organisations the right apprentice for the right job or placement.

It is hoped the link-up will create employment opportunities for young people aged 16-24 as well as help Sheffield employers seeking to plug vacancies in their workforce with young, motivated staff.

Members can approach the Chamber with their recruitment needs and, via the new relationship with The Source, a database of young people suitable for an apprenticeship position will become accessible to them. Alternatively, members can explore tailored and relevant training options for their existing employees aged 16-24.

The Chamber's Head of Business Development Paul Reeves said: "This new apprenticeship scheme fits in perfectly with our workforce development plan.

"Later this year the chamber aims to expand on its work with schools as well as academies. We're also continuing our support for Foundation Degree Forward and recently launched our student membership scheme which has renewed our links with the city's two universities.

"With training courses available on our Senior Management programme, we are looking at a business support system that really runs the gamut of age ranges - from school pupils to leading business figures.

"We chose The Source because they are a highly commended training provider with a mission that mirrors ours - to meet the needs of local businesses, employers and the surrounding community."

The Source centre manager Dianne Wainwright said: "We here at The Source are delighted to receive this further endorsement from Sheffield Chamber of Commerce. We are committed to providing high quality training that will equip the young people of Sheffield to meet the challenges of today's working world. Having access to a rich supply of apprenticeship opportunities will only further enhance our role and can only serve to increase the motivation of the young people involved, knowing that there are a wide range of quality employers looking to utilise the skills they acquire during their training with us. I am sure this will be the beginning of a long and successful partnership"

Added Paul: "The chamber is currently in the process of adding other work-based learning providers to our portfolio so we can offer members a complete spectrum of recruitment and occupational training options.

"This partnership with The Source is another example of adding value to the chamber's membership benefits while building on our policy of working collaboratively with key agencies and organisations within the city business region."
