Meet Kester, who works in Graphics and Marketing at The Source. Kester joined The Source Marketing team after applying through the Future Jobs Fund scheme. Kester is supporting the various departments at The Source with graphics and design work and helping create eye catching and informative literature.
Kester, tell us a little more about your role at The Source.....
I'm designing flyers, brochures, posters, logos and anything else that needs doing graphically. I've done small projects for almost every department. I get my designs quality checked and then send them off to print.
What do your day to day duties include?
Lots and lots of Photoshop. People give me logos or text and I put them together in a way that looks more interesting visually. Sometimes I take photos or purchase them on the web for a design. Then I show it to the client, before making any necessary changes.
What are you enjoying most about your role so far?
Getting lots of practice with Photoshop and working with great people. It's also good to be learning more about design all the time.
How did you find out about Future Jobs Fund and The Source?
I was referred from Job Centre Plus for the visual merchandising role at Sheffield Showcase and then passed through to marketing here at the Source. I had to design a small flyer as an induction before I was successful in the role.
What skills in design do you bring to your role?
I've been using Photoshop for years but my background is in Animation so I haven't done too much standard graphic design before. I like to think I have a pretty good eye for design and good software knowledge but no recognised training in the area, aside from my degree in Animation.
And the million dollar question for March, what is your favourite Easter egg?
The one I had last year, Rocky Road. It was chocolate with bits of marshmallow all through it. Absolutely awesome!
