The Source is proud to welcome three new full timers to the team after their Future Jobs Fund contracts have been extended to permanent roles.
The Future Jobs Fund scheme was initiated to support the creation of jobs for long term unemployed young people and others who face significant disadvantage in the labour market and was run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) and with input from Jobcentre Plus and Regional Government Offices in England.
Kester Smith, Leah Flack and Taleaka Brown all joined The Source in 2010 under the Future Jobs Fund contract, lasting 6 months. Due to the fantastic impact they have made on their teams at The Source, they have been recruited into full time posts.
Kester had been unemployed for 10 months after studying for his degree in Animation at Wolverhampton University and had struggled to find employment until hearing about Future Jobs Fund.
Kester said: "The Future Jobs Fund project has given me the opportunity to put the skills I developed at university to practical use in the workplace. Through this, the Council has helped me into a job I am really enjoying and I am developing new skills to add to my CV every day. I am now working fulltime at The Source Academy, doing what I love everyday and working with a great team of people whose knowledge and experience is helping me grow my own skills."
The Future Jobs Fund is part of the Backing Young Britain programme which aims to support young people, especially affected by the recession, into jobs.
Leah Flack: "Future Jobs Fund has supported me into employment and has helped me feel more confident in the workplace. I am working in a busy team which is improving my confidence and I really enjoy it."
Taleaka said: "Future Jobs Fund has been excellent for me, as I have now found full-time employment and it has given me the opportunity to increase my skills and further my knowledge in administration. Because I work within a small team, I am able to work with my colleagues on a more personal level which gives me the opportunity to prove myself to the department I work in and to the company."
