On a monthly basis, we offer ‘food for thought' and share a few words of wisdom surrounding training and development. This month, we are sharing information about how fitness can help your staff be more productive and lead to a happy and healthy workforce.
A 2005 study* presented at the American College of Sports Medicine surveyed 210 office workers who engaged in exercise through their work gym, completing a questionnaire reflecting the ease of completing tasks using a seven-point scale. This was compared on a day when they exercised during the workday and again on days when they did not. The study reported that the ability to manage time demands, output demands and mental and interpersonal performance, were significantly higher on the days the employees exercised. In fact 65% of those surveyed improved their scores in all three areas on exercise days.
Andy Ward, Fitness Suite Manager said: "From looking at studies such as these, it is clear that by engaging in a fitness routine in your working day, based on a lunchtime 45-60 minute session, you encourage a balanced and healthy work and home life."
