Merry Christmas - A Message from Our Director
Merry Christmas - A Message from Our Director
16th December 2010

This year, The Source has seen significant changes and developments within new projects across the region. Not only have we considerably grown our team but new contracts have been achieved and awards won celebrating multiple successes.

2010 saw the introduction of Opportunity Business and Finance and Opportunity Retail; two new services provided at no cost to the employer delivered by The Source and Sheffield City Council and funded by the Council, Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund to provide impartial help and support to Sheffield's employers. We launched the Mary Portas Retail Masterclasses and were honoured that Mary herself came to The Source to celebrate the official launch. We have also grown our community programme and enhanced our training offer to reach out to new markets.

In addition, we have been recognised with several international, national and local awards, including the Institute of Shopping Centres Foundation Best of the Best Albert Sussman Award, two Business in the Community Awards, Retail Tutor of the Year at the Retail Week Rising Star Awards, Team Achievement of the Year at the Master Cutler Charity Awards, Business of the Year at the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards, Best Window Display at the World Retail Congress Retail Futures challenge in Berlin, City Award and Contribution Award at the Sheffield Celebration Awards and Best Business Angel at the Sheffield Night of Honour Awards. All of these achievements are great recognition of the work we are doing not just locally and nationally, but worldwide.

Our staff have also been busy fundraising throughout 2010, raising over £950 for Children in Need, £2,500 Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, supporting Macmillan Cancer care, Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project and Breast Cancer Awareness; the Fitness Suite also donated gym memberships to the Charity Unleashed Gift Book in support of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

Our Sheffield Showcase project has also gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months and we have not only supported the first round of Retail Apprentices through their qualification, but helped them find positions in the retail industry.

Eight new Visual Merchandising Apprentices started in August 2010, introducing fresh talent and creativity to the city centre project.

Overall 2010 has been an exciting year for The Source and 2011 is set to be even bigger and better, with the launch of two new hubs in Sheffield city centre and Rotherham town centre which will be followed by sites in both Barnsley and Doncaster in the near future. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers and partners for your continued support throughout the year and wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas.
