The Source is Honoured at Awards Ceremony
15th December 2010

The Source at Meadowhall's Penny Stones has been recognised at the Sheffield Night of Honour Awards for her contribution to supporting charities whilst in the workplace.

The Night of Honour Awards honour real people that go the extra mile to make Sheffield a brilliant place to live in and celebrate everything that is amazing about our city. The Source was also highly commended in the Community Organisation of the Year category, honouring an organisation that pours itself into the local community.

Penny was awarded Sheffield's Best Business Angel at the event, a category that celebrates extraordinary employees and businesses are dedicated to raising funds & practically helping people less fortunate. Over her 12 years of working at Meadowhall Shopping Centre, and in recent years at The Source, Penny has been responsible for the Sports Social Club. This role involves arranging charity events, Christmas parties, weekly bingo, fun days, children's egg hunts, trips to the seaside etc. The role itself is one which most people wouldn't relish, arranging events for over 300 staff and keeping them all happy is a challenge in itself.

Penny also ran hundreds of fund-raising events for good causes, including sponsored 48 hour bike rides, charity football event and fancy dress days. During her time at Meadowhall and at The Source, Penny raised approximately £60,000 for charities including Children in Need, Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and Comic Relief.

Penny said: "I was absolutely amazed and delighted to be nominated and receive the Business Angel award. However, I accepted it on behalf of all the willing volunteers from the staff at Meadowhall and The Source, without whom the fundraising and Sports and Social club activities would not have been possible."

Source Director, Ann Cadman, said: "We are all extremely proud of Penny and grateful for the work she has done for our business over recent years. Her charitable nature inspires everyone else which has helped us raise money for some fantastic causes. Penny is retiring in 2011 and I couldn't think of a better thank you than rewarding her with this accolade. Congratulations Penny."
