Santa has arrived on Pinstone Street and he's asking the people of Sheffield to dig deep this Christmas and give to a city charity.
Apprentices from Kier have designed and constructed a sleigh which is in one of the shop windows as part of the Sheffield Showcase exhibition. Sheffielders are being asked to help fill Santa's sleigh with food that will then be donated to the Cathedral's Archer Project's Christmas collection for the homeless.
Councillor Paul Scriven, Leader at Sheffield City Council said: "Apprentices from both Kier and The Source have done a fantastic job on the window displays and now it's our turn to get involved. In the last run up to Christmas we're asking people to donate what they can to this worthy cause. We had a great response from Sheffielders last year and hope we can get just as much this year. This is another example of Sheffield's inventiveness. What a fantastic inspiration these young people are thinking of others before themselves. Now I want Sheffielders to show how big their hearts are by donating goodies so others can have a great Christmas too."
The project has brought together businesses and organisations from across the city - all for a good cause. CTS Training, Kier Sheffield, Hammerson, Sheffield Homes, The Source and Sheffield City Council have all been involved. B&Q and Johnstones provided the paint for the sleigh.
Ann Cadman from the Source said: "The Cathedral's Archer Project's Christmas collection is a fantastic cause that we are proud to support, but we still need the local community to get involved and donate items to help the homeless. Our Apprentices have shown their Christmas spirit this year and after last year's success we think Santa Sleigh will be brimming."
Anyone who has a donation can take them to 106 Pinstone Street (the old Damart shop at the junction with Cambridge St) or ask a City Centre Ambassador for more information.
Donations are being taken up until Thursday 23 December.
The showcase brings together creative talent, retailers and apprentices to animate the Sevenstone development site. The project creates an outdoor gallery in the city centre to boost the number of people coming into Sheffield to help businesses still operating in the area, as well as providing opportunities for future Sheffield retail talent who will drive the success of the New Retail Quarter in years to come.
