Q&A - Andy Ward
Q. What was your first ever job?
A. As a shipping clerk, shipping goods to Nigeria, it was a bit boring to say the least.
Q. What was your most unusual job?
A. Probably polishing the Cenotaph in Barkers Pool. We did it every October in readiness for Armistice Day on 11th November. We used bees wax melted in white spirits to shine the bronze statues ready for the big day.
Q. What is one goal you'd like to accomplish during your lifetime?
A. Run another Ultra-race of 100km or more, maybe even The Wall which is running Hadrian's wall, a 65 mile stretch of continuous running.
Q. What is in your CD player at the moment?
A. Bon Jovi's greatest hits. I recently took my wife to the concert at Trafford Park. There were over 47,000 fans in the audience and the band was awesome!
Q. What one item would you take with you to a desert island?
A. My beloved wife. If that doesn't constitute an ‘item' then I would take my Swiss army knife that my children bought me for my birthday. It would be very useful to have in that situation and it would remind me of them and keep me positive and inspire me to survive. "Without inspiration the best powers of the mind remain dormant. There is a fuel in us that needs to be ignited with sparks." Johann Gottfried Von Herder.
Q. If you had to describe yourself using three words, it would be...
A. Pragmatic, reasonable and romantic.
