First In Best Dressed Official Launch
First In Best Dressed Official Launch
15th September 2011

The Source Skills Academy has launched First In Best Dressed, an innovative charity
shop in Sheffield, the first of its kind!

First in Best Dressed, based on Cambridge Street, is a brand new charity shop that aims
to develop apprentices by giving them practical experience of running a business as well as raising money for local charities.

A number of charities will each gain for three months from the shop's profits and Autism
Plus will be the charity to benefit during the first quarter. First In Best Dressed is looking for charity nominations for the next two years from the residents of Sheffield, so please get in touch with your suggestions (contact details below).

Council Leader and supporter of the project, Julie Dore unveiled First in Best Dressed on Friday (9th September). The project is supported by Sheffield City Council, the Skills Funding Agency and The Source Skills Academy.

Julie Dore said: "This is an excellent project, supporting local charities, young people and revitalising an empty unit in the city centre. By donating your unwanted items, you are providing the fuel to develop young people and raising vital funds for local charities. I'm sure people will be pleased with what First In Best Dressed has to offer; come down and take a look!"

The exciting initiative complements the Sheffield Showcase scheme which has transformed
the empty shop units in Sheffield city centre whilst giving young people the opportunity to demonstrate their merchandising skills and liaise with local artists, designers and retailers. The Sheffield Showcase, launched two years ago, has showcased over 240 local businesses in the window displays and given 26 visual merchandising apprentices practical experience of dressing windows.

Ann Cadman, Managing Director at The Source Skills Academy, said: "First In Best Dressed is an exciting new charity shop that not only supports local charities, but gives young people the opportunity to gain practical experience in a retail environment. The Sheffield Showcase has proved extremely successful for both the students and local retailers and we don't doubt First In Best Dressed will follow suit!"

First In Best Dressed is fronted by David Webber who, with over 30 years experience in retail, brings a wealth of new ideas and experience to the charity shop, managing the young Apprentices and preparing donations for display.
