The Source at Meadowhall is celebrating the appointment of new recruit Paula Windle. Paula joins The Source team as a retail tutor working on the schools programme alongside Retail Vocational Training Manager, Brenda England. To get an insight into The Source's latest recruit we've asked Paula a number of probing questions...
So Paula, as the new retail tutor you must have a background in retail. How did it all start?
For the past 14 years I have worked in various positions within the Retail Sector. I started as a part time sales advisor with Dorothy Perkins and soon realised that retail provided fantastic career opportunities. I went on to develop my skills and knowledge, becoming a Manager for a large High Street Retailer, and more recently utilising my skills to assist the development and progression of others by becoming Training/HR Manager.
How will you pass on your experience to the students?
My passion for customer service is matched only by my passion for developing others, and the position of Retail Tutor at The Source provides me with the opportunity to help others realise their potential and a develop the skills necessary to gain a qualification in Customer Service, and increase their employment prospects within the Retail Sector.
What are you most looking forward to in your new job?
I am really looking forward to meeting new learners, both at The Source and in the School environment, I feel really privileged to be playing an active part in helping others to develop.
Going back to your school days, whilst at school what career did you want to pursue?
I wanted to become a Social Worker; I actually studied a CCETSW course for 2yrs.
Who was your favourite teacher at school and what did you like about them?
My favourite teacher was Mr Craggs; he was unconventional in that he used to take a small group of us on walking and adventure weekends. He used to make learning so much fun that it never occurred to me that he was actually ‘teaching'.
Would you model your teaching skills around Mr Craggs?
Absolutely, his method was interactive, varied and interesting. He was very nurturing and encouraging which I believe is the key when helping others to develop.
What was your favourite lesson at school?
English without a doubt! I particularly loved creative writing as it allowed my imagination to run riot.
Did you ever cheat on your exams or homework?
I would NEVER cheat in an exam, however I do recall copying out someone's homework......the dog ate mine....honest!!!!
And finally the question on everybody's lips... did you sit: 11+, O Levels or GCSE's?
Oh dear, now I sound ancient... O levels.
Thanks Paula for your honest answers, best of luck in your new role.
